How to eliminate static at desk?
I generate a lot of static sitting at my desk and rolling around on the plastic chair pad such that when I plug in a USB device/cable/whatever and touch the to shields I get a discharge and the computer come to a screeching halt. Everything is grounded to the AC house power ground, but I guess the EMI generated shuts it down. How do I prevent this short of attaching myself to the computer - which my wife says I already am.
yea, I know what causes it and how to reduce static, but I guess I'm trying to figure out how to keep the computer from seeing a discharge that doesn't go thru any circuitry - IE to its frame
LOL
They actually make grounded chair mats if the static gets ridiculous.
The usual cuplrit in high static areas is low humidity. Put a humidifier in the room (or on the home furnace) and you'll avoid most of the static and enjoy breathing more in the winter.
